12k Carbon Fiber tow under a microscope

This is one single tow of carbon fiber under a microscope. Each tow contains 12,000 filaments or strands of carbon fiber. When these filaments are saturated with epoxy they form a reinforced polymer matrix that’s 10x the tensile strength of steel.
